Viisage to gather biometric information for new Icelandic passport
Iceland has decided to equip its citizens with a biometric ID, and has contracted Viisage to collect the necessary information
There are no trees in Iceland (because of the climate and terrain), but soon there will be biometric passports. Iceland’s Ministry of Justice and Ecclesiastical Affairs has selected Billerica, Massachusetts-based Viisage to gather the multi-biometric data required to issue new electronic passports for the island’s citizens. Iceland is one of the first countries to integrate finger and face biometrics into their ePassports, and the company’s technology will be used to gather ICAO/ISO-compliant biometric data (face, fingerprint, and signature) on Icelandic citizens applying for electronic passports at all civil registration offices throughout the country.
