Smart gridSiemens chosen to build Fort Collins's electrical smart grid

Siemens Energy, Inc. was recently chosen by the city of Fort Collins, Colorado to help build its electrical smart grid infrastructure.

Under the contract, Siemens Energy will work with the City of Fort Collins Utilities to implement its eMeter EnergyIP meter data management system.

The initial portion of the project will focus on the provisioning and commissioning of advanced metering infrastructure and Siemens will also help process commercial and industrial metering data from the data system. Additionally, Siemens will also integrate eMeter EnergyIP to the customer information system to support the meter-to-cash process.

“Siemens’ proven project management methodology was a deciding factor in our selection of this team,” said Steve Catanach, the light and power operations manager for City of Fort Collins Utilities, in a press release. “We required a partner that is agile and flexible, and the Siemens/eMeter team is just that. The Fort Collins Smart Grid deployment will enable two-way digital communication between the advanced meters and our system managers, reducing operational costs, related truck rolls and improving customer service.”

Thierry Godart, the president of Smart Grid Applications, said, “We are committed to the success of the Fort Collins project and our team will play a critical role in integrating eMeter EnergyIP into their operational and business systems.”

“The system’s proven functionality, paired with the efficiency and reliability of Siemens’ project management, will result in a quality Smart Grid deployment,” Godart added.

The project is paid for with funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
