The Security Industry Association, a trade group representing businesses in electronic and physical security, has released suggested guidelines for adding biometrics to the federal E-Verify federal resident verification program.
The recommendations for integrating biometrics into the program comes after a September release from the organization calling for the introduction of biometrics into the program to help reduce the high error rates and risk of identity theft.
Third Factor reports that among their suggestions, which follow the requirement of protecting individual privacy while preventing identity theft, include connecting the biometrics to an identity document which in turn is connected to the individual’s social security number; authenticating an individual for each application for employment and avoiding distribution and encoding biometric data.
