Sequiam offers biometric kit

Published 5 January 2006

It is one thing to want biometric measures for added security, but it is another thing to do it on the cheap; Sequiam now offers a biometric kit which may just do that

It is not exactly do-it-yourself biometrics, but Orlando, Florida-based Sequiam Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: SQUM), through its wholly owned subsidiary Sequiam Biometrics, a provider of biometric technology and services, will today unveil its biometric security OEM kit at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Named SUBI (Sequiam Universal Biometric Interface), the kit was developed in partnership with Norwood, Massachusetts-based Analog Devices (NYSE: ADI), a maker of high-performance semiconductors for signal-processing applications. The Sequiam Biometric OEM kit will allow manufacturers to add biometric access to their existing product lines. The OEM kit features Analog Devices’ Blackfin DSP as well as software development tools allowing easier manufacturer integration.

The first OEM kit in the product line (Sequiam Universal Biometric Interface) features storage of up to fifty fingerprints and can run stand-alone or communicate through a serial interface. The system can actuate relays in devices such as safes, medical cabinets and electronic equipment. Anything that previously required a key, card, or PIN can be fitted with the OEM kit during the manufacturing process. The product is expected to ship during the first quarter of 2006.
