Raytheon wins National Data Exchange contract
Company will build out N-Dex information sharing network; system will operate alongside R-Dex to facilitate rapid exchange of critical data; Raytheon programmers to rely on Global Justice XML Data Model and the National Information Exchange Model
Waltham, Massachusetts-based Raytheon has won a major contract from the FBI to develop the National Data Exchange (N-Dex) law enforcement information-sharing system, Government Computer News reported this week. N-Dex, readers probably already know, is intended to harmonize data on a slew of varied law enforcement databases for common search, acquisition, and analysis purposes — the idea being to make it easier to draw connections between people, locations, and objects such as weapons and currency. The system will act in tandem with R-Dex, a regional data exchange program that helps law enforcement locate, but not neccesarily retrieve, critical information. According to the FBI’s description of the N-Dex project, Raytheon will build out the system in reliance on the Global Justice XML Data Model and the National Information Exchange Model. No dollar figure has been announced for the contract.
