We typically associate the term “critical infrastructure” with civilian uses, but the Navy has critical infrastructure, too, and we note that Northrop Grumman was recently awarded a contract potentially valued at $100 million to provide Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) systems and capabilities to Navy installations around the world. The contract was awarded by the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

Under the terms of the five-year, multiple award, indefinite- delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, Northrop Grumman will use a total systems engineering approach to develop, install, integrate, test, and support the fielding of software and hardware to automate and improve the security and advanced warning posture of Navy shore installations worldwide. This contract emphasizes state-of-the-art solutions to meet requirements for physical security, access control, emergency management, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear protection, and command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

Contracts were awarded in miod-March to Northrop Grumman and three other companies. Each company will compete for task orders that have potential overall value of $100 million for each company if all options are exercised.

Northrop Grumman is a $30 billion company with about 122,000 employees.
