EU imposes new carry-on luggage rules
Mandatory across the European Union, the new restrictions are almost identical to those imposed in the United States; liter bags will be in great demand, as will 100ml bottles; new luggage size restrictions coming soon
Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and so there is a good reason to think that the European Union thinks highly of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration. Three months after London’s liquid bomb plot was broken up, the EU has imposed mandatory restrictions on carry-on luggage that seem lifted from TSA’s playbook. Under the new rules, air travellers in Europe will have to pack liquids into a small plastic bag no larger than one liter, and under no circumstances will containers larger than 100ml be permitted onboard. Passengers will, however, be allowed to carry medicines and baby food, subject to evidence that are neccesary.
Many European countries have already imposed similar restrictions, but the EU regulations admit of no national exceptions, though nations will maintain the freedom to be even harsher if they so desire. New limits on the size of carry-on bags are expected to enter into force next year.
