The Washington Homeland Security Roundtable (WHSR) established the Industry Engagement Awards to recognize exceptional efforts by government agencies to collaborate, engage, and partner with industry.
Last year, WHSR recognized both the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the U.S. Border Patrol for their engagement and programs with industry through WHSR.
WHSR says that the partnership with TSA, established with a Memorandum of Understanding between TSA and WHSR, has two primary components — a Senior Executive Industry forum and Subject Matter Expert Focus Groups — which have provided opportunities for TSA to collaborate and strengthen their relationship with industry. Over the past year, WHSR members and non-members are engaged with TSA in eleven ongoing forums. WHSR presented the award to Karen Shelton Waters, assistant administrator for the Office of Acquisitions, who accepted on behalf of TSA.
WHSR says that through its partnership with WHSR, the U.S. Border Patrol has been able to engage industry in an exchange of information, ideas, and best practices on the U.S. Border Patrol’s National Strategic Plan for FY 2012-2016. The program kicked off with a full day with Chief Michael Fisher and the Command Staff sharing the strategic plan with both industry executives and a broad group of industry representatives. Later in the year, Fisher and the Command Staff shared implementation updates with industry, and Fisher engaged with senior industry executives in a discussion on Border Metrics. WHSR presented the award to Chief Michael Fisher, who accepted on behalf of the U.S. Border Patrol.
“Border security is not just relegated to those in uniform. Industry leaders play a pivotal role in keeping America safe and her citizens secure,” said Fisher.
At their upcoming 4 December holiday reception, WHSR will once again recognize various government leaders of DHS component agencies for their contributions and commitment to partnering and engaging with industry. One award will be presented to an agency that has senior level participation in an ongoing dialogue with industry.
Fisher will present the award this year on behalf of WHSR. Additionally, a senior executive from TSA will provide a recap of the program and benefits to TSA. WHSR will also announce upcoming 2014 programs.
“Last year, WHSR was delighted to honor these two government agencies for their recognition of the benefits of industry engagement and the value of partnerships,” said Kay Olive, WHSR director. “We look forward to our continued partnership with these agencies and recognizing the 2013 awardee. “Partnerships enable real collaboration between industry and government to help the public sector achieve its goals.”
