Ceelox unveils fingerprint authentication for cloud networks

As cloud computing becomes more common, businesses and individuals seeking to protect their identity have been forced to rely solely on a cloud provider’s proprietary security measures. But thanks to Ceelox, Inc., firms now have the option to integrate an additional layer of security on their cloud computing applications.
Ceelox, Inc. recently announced the release of Ceelox ID Online which is a biometric solution designed specifically for cloud computing applications. Users can now use their fingerprints to securely authenticate their credentials, minimizing the threat of having their user name and password stolen or compromised.
Stolen passwords and online identity theft has risen dramatically in recent years. From mid-2005 to mid-2006 alone, roughly fifteen million Americans were the victims of fraud related to identity theft.
In announcing the release of Ceelox ID, Gerry Euston, the CEO of Ceelox, said in a statement, “Protecting a person’s identity and personal data and information across the Internet and cloud applications is becoming a national concern. Ceelox is proud to offer a solution which is easy to deploy and provides consumers with peace-of-mind.”
Once securely logged in with Ceelox ID, the software will connect the user to the requested cloud computing site by using a “relying party” relationship. This service can then be used with any cloud application including encrypted email servers, Facebook, or secure data storage.
With Ceelox ID, users also have the flexibility to use one password for all their accounts to increase flexibility and convenience, while maintaining security. Using OpenID users can integrate all of their log in credentials into a single point of entry for all sites without worrying that individual passwords will be compromised.
OpenID has quickly gained acceptance and now has over one billion subscribers and over 50,000 websites are equipped to handle Open ID logins. So far major websites and services like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Facebook, and France Telecom have adopted the OpenID standard.
